Cape Town Energy 2040 Vision and Action Plan
Day: Tuesday, 6th of October
Time: 13:00 – 14:30
The City has developed the Cape Town Energy2040 vision – this is based on energy futures modelling informed by an intensive energy data update and alignment with city development objectives. This vision informs the Cape Town Energy and Climate Change Action Plan, which has significant focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy in both the electricity and the transport sectors.
The vision is developed collaboratively with national, provincial and city stakeholders and is a commitment from the City to building a more resilient future. Five-yearly milestones with associated projects to achieve these are based on the energy futures modeling – these projects and programmes form the Energy and Climate Action Plan, a living document monitored through the City’s systems.
The side event will engage the audience in robust debate on the Cape Town vision and on the role of cities in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy for economic development and to build resilience to climate change, economic contraction and supply constraints. Local government institutional and regulatory issues will also be discussed.
