In August 2014, Dr. Lorenz Petersen became Director of the Climate Change, Rural developoment and Infrastructure, after serving three years as GIZ Country Director in Mozambique.
Previously, Lorenz Petersen managed the GIZ Competence Center for Climate Change for five years and held positions as technical expert on environmental policy issues, both at GIZ headquarters in Eschborn, Germany.
By education he is an environmental economist with a specialisation in international environmental policy, and governance aspects of natural resources management. He holds a postgraduate degree in agricultural science and a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources Economics with 25 years of experience in economic analysis, policy design and implementation in an international development and environmental policy context. Before joining GIZ he held long term positions as Campaign Coordinator with Greenpeace International and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations in Rome with its World Bank Co-operative Programme.
